As a graduate student in NYC, I would occasionally stop by Whole Foods Market, and that’s where I came across Natural Awakenings magazine and found myself attracted to the advertisement for Dr. Mariana Boneva’s Manhattan medical spa, Beauty + Aesthetics. Simple, clear and straight to the point, the ad stood out to me and caught my attention time and again.

Although I did not have a chance to visit her office until two and a half years later, I had the feeling that if I ever sought medical treatment for an issue that had long been bothering me—excessive hair on my body and face from a hormonal imbalance—that was where I wanted to go. From time to time over the years, I would visit one of various local salons to try to address the issue, but I did not find satisfaction in any of them. In fact, the treatments caused skin damage that I had to deal with either right away or later on.

As a youngster in my homeland, a country in Eastern Europe, I developed a hormonal health issue that was not treated until I was in my early 20s. Although the hormonal imbalance was corrected, its superficial consequences didn’t go away, and I found it quite embarrassing to notice long, dark hairs on the fair skin of my face every time I looked in the mirror. They were especially visible in natural sunlight.

Of course, I found numerous ways to try and hide the problem—tweezing, shaving and waxing, to name a few. That last effort left the skin around my lips dark and bumpy, and most of the hairs were still there. These were just temporarily cover-ups, and they had very noticeable side effects.

Still, I didn’t realize just how bad my problem really was until I spent two full weeks in a hospital in NYC, so sick that I was not able to take care of my hair growth. It was horrendous. I grew a mustache and a beard, not to mention hair on my body. I was only 30 years old, but when I looked at myself in the mirror, I felt like I was at least 50, and in bad shape.

So when I finally made the decision to go to Dr. Boneva and I met her for the first time in her office, I was filled with gratitude. In her I saw a highly professional specialist whose primary goal was to get to the root of my problem and treat it in a knowledgeable, dignified way.

Dr. Boneva suggested a diet that I had never heard about before, as well as internal colon cleansing. The daily and weekly regimens she suggested made an outstanding change on my face. The products that I get from Dr. Boneva are of the highest quality; I feel like they were made especially for me. I had not even imagined that there was a chance that my skin would be smooth and clear again, but I do know that I’m getting much more in services than what I paid for.

I am most sincerely grateful to Dr. Boneva for the excellent treatment and my renewed inner and outer confidence.
